Oshun’s Honey Flow

“Oshun’s honey flow” is a work commissioned by Roehrs & Boetsch gallery for the exhibition FitArt – Female Body. It evokes a reclamation of the female body through dance, embracing a sensuality that challenges Western norms. The piece explores ancestral memory embedded in the body or passed down woman to woman, and diasporic connections between powerful feminine figures such as Oshun (the Yoruba goddess of rivers and fertility), the Jamaican legends of River Muma, and dancehall culture — especially its feminine dance moves. The river footage was filmed at Reach Falls, Jamaica. Featuring dancers based in Kingston and London: Mama Blazzaz, Racquel Monteith, Jess Baddie, and Sammie Jo Jackson.
